CBS KHOU features Genesys's Entrepreneurship Program.

Albert Einstein once said that "in the midst of difficulty lies opportunity." The Student Entrepreneurship Program (SEP) helps you to become aware of the great opportunities in starting and operating an actual business
including earning wages and starting your personal scholarship fund.
The SEP offers you the chance to learn entrepreneurialism then plan, start, operate and close an actual computer refurbishment and resale business!
Training:
Each team member will be trained in business development through an 80 hour entrepreneurial course. Technicians will also receive additional training through the Genesys Technical Program in order to effectively refurbish computers.
Planning:
While being trained, each team will develop a business
plan in three levels: basic, intermediate and advanced.
With help from instructors and mentors, the business
plan will be a successful document on which to base
the computer refurbishment and resale business. The
final business plan is presented to Genesys to ask for
the startup money in order to start the computer refurbishment
and resale business.
Starting and Operating:
After receiving the startup money teams start to implement
their business plans. Technicians begin the refurbishment
process on the 400 plus donated computers while sales
and marketing personnel start the selling process. Computers
are targeted to be sold to the communities of Houston
thereby bridging the digital divide. However, teams
will be able to sell to any type of customer including
organizations. Since this is a real business, each team
member earns a salary based on the financials outlined
in the business plan. The goal is for students to sell
400 computers but they have the opportunity to sell
many more than that!
Closing:
At the end of the program, each team will close their business. With the remaining profits, they must repay Genesys the startup money and then divide the rest into higher education scholarships for each team member. This opportunity is then offered to the next generation of teams so they too can learn to start and operate an actual business.
Like Albert Einstein said, this is not an easy process so you must possess the dedication, motivation and creativity to overcome the difficulties in order to see the opportunity afforded to your education and personal development.
